LONDON - The World Sindh Congress (WSC) flatly denies the allegations made by a Pakistani government official as reported by Dawn, an English-language newspaper published in Pakistan. A report published on July 20, 2006 in Dawn reported an unnamed official accusing WSC for its links with terrorists in Sindh and Balochistan.

"Such bogus accusations are a brazen attempt to undermine and discredit our advocacy efforts and to hide the Pakistan military’s gross violence against the minority nations in Pakistan," said Rehman Kakepoto, information secretary of WSC.

WSC is UK/USA based human rights advocacy organization working to create a better understanding in the international community about the persecuted status of Sindhis in Pakistan. WSC peacefully promotes human rights, and highlights persecution of women and religious minorities. WSC is registered as a non-profit organization in England and Wales, and in California, USA. The WSC membership firmly believes in secular, democratic and non-violent means for creating civil society in Sindh and Pakistan. To promote its goals, WSC undertakes peaceful initiatives and conflict resolution activities in Sindh. Despite its meagre resources, WSC has effectively raised its collective voice against Pakistan’s overt and covert efforts to prop up Islamic fundamentalists, and to proliferate nuclear weapons and technology. WSC has also protested against the persecution of the secular-minded indigenous peoples of Sindh and Balochistan and the exploitation of their natural resources to support excessive military spending.

All major nongovernmental organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and various news agencies such as BBC, the New York Time, the Washington Post, the Economist and Dawn itself have published numerous accounts of gross human rights violation by Pakistan, including the disappearance of political activists and journalists, the bombing of civilian populations in Balochistan, torture and extra-judicial killings, and violence against women and religious minorities including Hindus, Ahmedis and Christians.

The Pakistani government, however, has always attempted to defame such human rights advocacy groups that expose the regime’s atrocities. Last year Gen. Pervez Musharraf made similar accusations against the women rights groups and journalists highlighting the cases of rape victims in Pakistan.

WSC urges the international community to pressure Pakistan to respect fundamental human rights, including the national rights of Sindhis and Baloch to their own land and resources. Pakistan must restore democracy and respect the rights of its constituents. It must also cease its support to Islamic terrorist groups, operating inside or outside the country.
