Indigenous People’s Leader Assassinated by Pakistan Military LONDON - World Sindhi Congress strongly condemned the Pakistan Army’s targeted killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti in Kohlu, Balochistan. Mr Bugti was 79 years old and a leader of the non-cooperative resistance movement of indigenous Baloch people demanding autonomy for the province. Baloch people have struggling against the theft of natural resources by federal government and building of Pakistan army bases in Balochistan province since 1948, when Pakistan invaded this autonomous region and forced them to join the federation of Pakistan. Since last two years, the Pakistani army and air force have been engaged in a major military campaign bombing numerous towns and villages using F-16s and helicopter gunships. It has cut-off water supplies and destroyed crops. It has indiscriminately mined fields in remote areas. A humanitarian catastrophe looms as an estimated 300,000 Baloch live without food and shelter. Hundreds of Baloch men, women and children civilians have been killed in these campaigns. "Unfortunately, this bombing and strafing Baluch villages and these military operations is done with the very same military equipment provided by the USA to fight Al-Qaeda and remnants of the Taliban," said R. Kakepoto, information secretary of WSC. World Sindhi Congress extends its heartfelt condolence to all Baloch and once again vows its support and solidarity with oppressed Baloch nation. The international community is asked to pressure the Pakistan government to prevent genocide of the Baluch people. Violations of international law must stop and the U.N. declaration of human rights must be enforced.
