Policy statement issued as press release by the Sindhi Democratic Forum The SDF expresses its deep regret and apprehension at the news appearing in today’s newspapers that the Hyderabad district is proposed to be made a City Govt., the summary of which has been moved for its approval to the Chief Minister. The present Sindh Govt’s step of joining five districts of Karachi into a single mammoth City Govt. of 15 million people and at the same time breaking the purely Sindhi Hyderabad district of 2.7 million people into four districts is the most unjust measure that will have far reaching and very harmful effects on the unity and integration of people of Sindh. The new Local Govt. Ordinance hands over all the lands, recourses, Govt. properties and employees to the city govts. Therefore in the city govts of Karachi and Hyderabad what rightfully belongs to Sindhi people will be gifted as a political bribe, to an ethnic party that is allied to the Sindh Govt. Conversion of already illegally divided Hyderabad, now in to City Government is part of this conspiracy. Whereas this move will greatly advance the agenda pursued by Gen. Musharraf and the ethnic allies of the Chief Minister, it will very greatly damage the Sindhi polity and Society. SDF warns the present Sindh Govt. not to fall in the trap of ethnic politics and not to commit an act, which the Sindhi people will always consider an offence against them and a great act of treachery and which all the people of Sindh will vehemently resist. SDF appeals to all people of Sindh, political parties, and concerned citizens to raise the voice in protest against this blatant injustice and an extremely harmful step.
