Mr. Chairman,
It is unfortunate to state that what the Western media calls `Islamic terrorism' is targeting Shi'a Muslims and violating their basic right to life and security.
The so-called Islamic terrorism which till recent years was supported by many Western governments, has turned against them and caused the tragedies of 9/11 in the U.S.A. , March 11 in Madrid and in other areas in the world. Shi'a Muslims who are over 400 million in number are the greatest victims of these terrorist gangs especially in Iraq and Pakistan . In Iraq-- the country of the mass graves - after the fall of the worst dictatorship which ever existed in history -- terrorist groups have joined hands with. Saddam's intelligence and are working to destroy lives, peace, security and infrastructure in Iraq . The unfortunate part of it is the role of some governments in indirectly supporting these terrorist groups with the excuse of opposing the Americann occupation or the role of the Shi'a majority in Iraq . Last week Wahabi terrorist groups kidnapped over 80 Shi'a civilians including children and women in Mada'en near Baghdad and threatened to kill themm if alll the Shi'a Population in Mada'en do not leave their town.
The international community is required to take a firmer stand and more practical steps to counter the on-going terrorism in Iraq , punishing every group, organisation or government which stands behind them, just as the U.N. is taking a determined stand against the alleged criminals in Darfur .
The crimes against Shia Muslims in Iraq reached genocide in Hilla, where hundreds of innocent civilians were killed and injured in a suicide bomb attack recently. The numbers of civilians killed by terrorist groups in Iraq has reached tens of thousands in the last two years. The majority of them
are from the Iraqi Shi'a Muslim majority, including thousands of women and children.
Has the United Nations and the international community done their duty to stop this bloodshed ? If this number of victims were Americans or Westerners, would the international community take the same stand of negativeness and low profile ? The assassination of Rafiq Al-Hariri, the ex- Lebanese prime minister is a crime which received a big reponse from the United Nations and the Security Council, while the assassination of Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammed Baqer Al-Hakim, the leader of millions of Iraqis, did not get a similar response. Is it not the right of the Iraqis to ask WHY
We at Interfaith International request the international community to focus on the roots of terrorism which is bred by Wahabi extremists and which targets other Muslims. We also demand further measures to counter terrorism, including punishing all those who stand behind it.
The failure of U.S. troops to maintain peace and security in Iraq is a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions. This failure should not be left unquestioned and right measures should be taken to counter this failure. Iraqi children, women and men, particularly from the Shi'a majority, are losing their lives and security because of this failure. Is it not the time for US. troops to let the Iraqis themselves handle their own security
Mr. Chairman,
On behalf of the families and children of the over 250 discovered mass graves s in Iraq, and on behalf of the Iraqis oppressed by the terrorist regime of Saddani which killed thousands of religious scholars and millions of civilians, I ask the international community to remember those innocent victims in an << International Day of the Mass graves in Iraq » just as the victims of the Nazi camps are remembered.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
